P5 Homework 19-3-15

Spelling:  Purple group: zero, sold, hippo, solo, over, roll, cold, bold, told.  Blue/Green group:  tactics, faction, attraction, deactivation, character, tractor, extraction, subtraction, contraction.

Reading: The push is on!  Only two weeks left to try and hit your target.  Will P5 earn the most AR points at Hazlehead?

Science:  You tried an experiment with Mandy today called Exploding Bags.  But for some of you it didn’t work.  Your homework is to recreate the Exploding Bag experiment, but this time you need to think about what might have prevented it from working.  What would you change?  What would you keep the same?  Why?  Write down exactly what you do and what happened.

Materials: ziplock bag, 1/4 cup water, 1/2 cup vinegar, 3 tsps. bicarbonate of soda, 1 tissue.

Learning Intention: I am learning how to conduct a fair test by changing one variable to see what will happen.

Success Criteria: I can explain what one thing I changed, why I changed it and what happened as a result.

What to do:  Wrap the bicarbonate of soda in a tissue.  Put the water and vinegar in the bag.  Add the tissue of bicarbonate of soda.  Seal the bag and shake it up.  Put it down and stand back.

Did it explode?  If not, why not?  What could you do to improve your design.
